With an ambition to empower the next generation of telecommunications superstars, Freedom Fibre recently opened its doors to work experience students from local high schools.
Covering areas in the marketing, finance, service delivery, and procurement departments, the students spent three days learning what it takes to deliver a world-class full-fibre network.
One work experience student, Finlay Woodall, spent three days with the quantity surveying team, learning about Freedom Fibre’s commercial processes and management. Whilst his work experience was with quantity surveying, he spent his three days meeting with different departments, learning how each area works together to plan and deliver a superior network and what a day spent at Freedom Fibre looks like.
Speaking on his time spent with Freedom Fibre, Finlay Woodall, said;
“My experience at Freedom Fibre has been like no other. At first, I had no idea what actually went into a fibre network company, but when I sat down with each department I realised how important every person’s role was in making the business successful, and how much actually went on behind the scenes. My time at Freedom Fibre has been very beneficial and I would like to thank everybody at Freedom Fibre for giving me the opportunity.”
The work experience programme hasn’t been Freedom Fibre’s only interaction with local schools. In March, the HR and Development team also attended Irlam and Cadishead Academy’s careers fair for the second year in a row.
On the importance of connecting with the local students, HR advisor, Joanna Hunt, said;
“This was Freedom Fibre’s first year of welcoming students on work experience and we had an amazing response from our teams, all happy to give up their time to welcome the students. Identifying, engaging, and nurturing young talent is extremely important to us, we have close links with local schools, colleges and universities in communities we work in and have gained substantial benefits from investing in developing young people at the very start of their careers. Ultimately, we have reaped the benefits, our recent work experience students brought a curious mindset, enthusiasm, energy and provided some great ideas!
Freedom Fibre's commitment to empowering the next generation of telecommunications experts through its work experience programme has proven to be a resounding success, and we can’t wait to watch these students continue to grow.
